Description of Work:
This flag was created as a remembrance of the struggles our ancestors dealt with in America, struggles that we still deal with today. It is to remind us that we are all one, that we all make this country move, and that we all must let our voices be heard no matter the obstacles.
Artist’s Bio:
Tamika Heard is a textile artist who creates content that evokes thought, social awareness, and depth of moral theory. Since receiving a BA in Art Studies, Tamika has continued independent study and community activism. Her most recent service was to the low-income community of Durham NC, where for 2 years she was the Creative Director for a sewing camp. The youth had a safe space to learn a skill and other social life skills while exploring their creativity and talent in design. Tamika has curated many exhibitions entertaining social intelligence on the East and West coast. She is currently exercising her Artist Managerial skills helping artists of color secure space in areas exclusive of them.
