Creative Reaction Lab educates, trains, and challenges Black and Latinx youth to become leaders designing healthy and racially equitable communities. CRXLAB is creating a youth-led, community-centered movement and professional pipeline challenging racial and health inequities in the education, media, health, and government sectors. Through real-world project-based educational programs, Black and Latinx youth apply a health, racial equity, and design lens to community challenges impacting the life expectancy of both races (e.g. gun violence, food access, etc.). Striving to change the way people address systemic oppression, CRXLAB has pioneered a social justice form of creative problem solving called Equity-Centered Community Design (ECCD) to be the curricular foundation of our work. ECCD is based on equity, humility-building, integrating history and healing practices, addressing power dynamics, and co-creating with the community. The underlying foundation of CRXLAB’s work is that since systems of oppression, inequalities, and inequities are by design, then they can be redesigned. CRXLAB is training and deploying Black and Latinx youth to become a new type of civic leader called Equity Designers. Ultimately, CRXLAB’s work is striving to create a world that embraces the humanity, rights, and power of Black and Latinx people.

Note: Creative Reaction Lab believes that being youth-led, community-centered should extend into the board leadership of the organization. College-aged students (18+) are extremely encouraged to also apply for the open national board director roles.

The Board will support the work of CRXLAB and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by CRXLAB’s President and CEO (further referred to as “CEO”), the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. 4. Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the CEO

  6. Partnering with the CEO and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out

Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments

  1. Representing CRXLAB to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization

  2. Ensuring CRXLAB’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities CRXLAB serves

CRXLAB’s Board Members will consider CRXLAB a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that CRXLAB can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, CRXLAB expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity. CRXLAB additionally expects the Board to collectively contribute and acquire at least 10% of the annual approved budget.

CRXLAB’s Board Members will serve a two-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for two additional terms. Board meetings will be virtually held monthly, with an annual face-to-face board retreat during the summer months.
